The festive spirit of Sharadiya Durga Puja has gripped Nakla upazila of Sherpur as artisans and devotees complete the final stages of preparation. This year, Goddess Durga is believed to have arrived on an elephant (Gaj), bringing messages of peace, prosperity and abundant harvest.
Devajit Poddar Jhumur, Convener of Upazila Puja Celebration Front said that, a total of 20 mandaps are being prepared across the upazila. These include 3 in the municipality, 5 in Ganpaddi union, 2 in Nakla union, 3 in Urpha union, 1 in Baneshwardi union, 2 in Pathakata union, 2 in Char Ashtadhar union and 2 in Chandrakona union. As Gauradhar and Talki unions have no mandaps, devotees from those areas will join nearby mandaps.
Member Secretary Ashish Kumar Saha said "Artisans are working tirelessly, adding new designs and vibrant colors to the idols. This year’s puja will be celebrated with grandeur. The Goddess’ arrival signifies peace and blessings for the nation and humanity,"
Uttam Kumar Banik, President of the Nakla Central Sri Sri Kalimata Temple Puja Committee noted that skilled craftsmen have been engaged to make idols more artistic, despite higher costs. Final decorations are now underway.
General Secretary Suranjit Kumar Banik confirmed that the upazila administration has arranged special security with law enforcement to ensure peaceful celebrations. The puja will commence on September 28 with Shashthi and conclude on October 2 with the immersion of idols on Vijaya Dashami. As per scriptures, the Goddess will return to Kailash on a palanquin (Dola) this year.
