Dhaka University Day will be observed on the 1st of July

The 106th Dhaka University Day will be celebrated on Wednesday (July 1, 2026). This year, the theme of the day is 'Dhaka University in Restoration of Democracy and Higher Education'.

A colorful day-long program has been organized on this occasion. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam will be present as the chief guest at 10 am on July 1 at Payra Square in front of the Student-Teacher Center and will formally inaugurate various programs of the University Day.

According to the program, on July 1, at 9:30 am, teachers, students, officers and employees from all halls and hostels of the university will gather at Smriti Chirantan Chattar in a procession. From there, at 9:45 am, a colourful procession will be taken out on the campus under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam.

The university's teachers, students, alumni, officials and employees will participate in the procession. At 10 am, the national flag, university and hall flags will be hoisted and a cake will be cut at the opening ceremony at the Payra Square in front of the Student-Teacher Center. During this time, the national anthem and the university's theme song, Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Sangeet will be performed with the participation of teachers and students of the music department. In addition, another song will be performed with the participation of foreign students.

A discussion meeting titled 'Dhaka University in Restoration of Democracy and Higher Education' will be held at the Student-Teacher Center Auditorium at 10:30 am. Emeritus Professor of the Department of English, Dr. A. F. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury will present the keynote address. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani and Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will be present as guests of honor in the discussion meeting to be held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam.

At the beginning of the discussion meeting, the 'Memorial' published to mark the day will be unveiled.

Classes will be closed from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on July 1 to celebrate Dhaka University Day, but exams will be held as usual.
