Coconut farmers, climbers provided training at Fakirhat

The coconut farmers of Fakirhat Upazila of Bagerhat have been provided with harvesting training and coconut climbers through smart technology.

Coconut climbers were awarded at 4 pm on Thursday after a day-long training session.

According to the Agriculture Office, under the Climate Change Adaptation Project in Khulna Agricultural Zone, farmers are trained to climb coconut trees quickly and safely for mechanized harvesting and maintenance. The Department of Agriculture distributed coconut climbers to 14 farmers who passed the training.

Among others present on the occasion were concerned Project Director Agriculturist Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, Project Monitoring Officer agriculturist Dhiman Majumdar, Upazila Agriculture Officer agriculturist Sheikh Sakhawat Hossain, Additional Agriculture Officer Nusrat Jahan, Deputy Assistant Plant Conservation Officer Nayan Kumar Sen and Assistant Agricultural Extension Officer. Md. Shahinul Islam.

Upazila Agriculture Officer agriculturist Sheikh Sakhawat Hossain said, “Under the project, 800 coconut climbers will be provided in Khulna agricultural region and 200 in Bagerhat district. Under this, 14 climbers have been provided in Fakirhat and training has been given to Gachis (farmers) in its use. Farmers will benefit from this.”
