Coast Guard seized Indian sarees worth Tk 4.68 cr in Dhaka's Postagola

Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a massive consignment of duty-evaded Indian sarees valued at Tk 4.68 crore and arrested one alleged smuggler during a drive in the Postagola area of the capital.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this in a press release on Monday afternoon.
According to Coast Guard sources, an operational team from the Coast Guard Station Pagla conducted a targeted raid near the Postagola Bridge area between 10:00 PM and 11:30 PM on Sunday based on confidential intelligence regarding illegal goods transport.
During the drive on Sunday night law enforcement personnel intercepted a suspicious covered van and recovered 2,310 pieces of smuggled Indian sarees brought into the country without paying government customs duties. The total monetary value of the seized goods and the seized vehicle stands at Tk 4 crore 68 lakh 93 thousand.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon stated that the seized sarees and covered van were formally handed over to the Vanshal Circle Office under the Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate.
Legal proceedings against the detained suspect have been taken with the Coast Guard reaffirming its commitment to maintaining strict drives to curb illicit cross-border trade.
