Coast Guard has seized cement, medicines, and other goods during drug smuggling attempt from Myanmar through barter trade
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque said this in a press release on Saturday.
The press release stated that based on secret information, it was learned that a dishonest group was planning to smuggle yaba, liquor, and other drugs into Bangladesh from Myanmar in exchange for Bangladeshi goods. Acting on this information, on Thursday, 4 September 2025, at around 11:00 PM, Coast Guard Station Cox’s Bazar conducted a special operation in the sea area adjacent to Nazirartek under Sadar Thana.
During the operation, a suspicious fishing boat was searched, and 197 sacks of cement, 197 kg of iron nails, 1,116 packets of jorda, and 130 cartons of medicines, worth approximately Tk 4,36,000, were seized. The fishing boat used in the smuggling operation was also confiscated. The smugglers, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, managed to flee, and no arrests were made.
The seized goods and the boat used for smuggling are under process for further legal action.
The press release further added that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to curb smuggling.
