Businessman brutally assaulted in broad daylight over land Dldispute in Sreepur

A businessman named Mostafizur Rahman Sohag was brutally assaulted and allegedly subjected to an attempted murder over a land dispute in Sreepur, Gazipur. The incident took place on Tuesday at around 11:30 AM at Afaz Moktar Mor in the Abdar area of the upazila.
Sohag, son of the late Monsur Moktar, is a well-known local businessman. According to local sources, Sohag was attacked by Faiz Uddin and his associates with local weapons when he arrived in front of Faiz Uddin’s house along with his young child. He was forcibly confined inside a shop and beaten mercilessly in a premeditated assault.
Locals rescued Sohag in a critically injured condition and rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex. The accused in the incident include Faiz Uddin, son of the late Zahur Uddin, his sons Nazmul and Arif Mia, Shamim, Sohel (son of the late Nurul Islam), and Nahar, Sohel's sister—all from the Abdar village.
Upon visiting the scene, it was revealed that the accused had been trying to illegally occupy Sohag’s land for a long time. The victim had previously sought help from the police and land office regarding the matter. A few days earlier, Faiz Uddin had openly threatened Sohag over the same land dispute.
Several local witnesses, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, “Beating a father in front of his child is not only brutal, but a gross violation of human rights.”
In his defense, accused Faiz Uddin admitted to the incident, claiming, “He came to my shop and tried to extort money and issue threats, which led surrounding shopkeepers and the public to beat him.” He also acknowledged shutting the shop’s shutter during the altercation.
OC of Sreepur Model Police Station, Zainal Abedin Mondol, said, “We’ve received the complaint. Legal action will be taken after proper investigation.”
Sohag’s family is preparing to file a formal case at Sreepur Model Police Station. Locals have demanded immediate intervention from law enforcement and exemplary punishment for those involved through a fair investigation.
