
Boat capsize in Hatiya: Body of police constable recovered, 3-yr old Rohingya child still missing

The body of Saiful Islam (25), a police constable, has been recovered following a boat capsize in the Meghna River near Hatiya, a remote island upazila in Noakhali. A three-year-old Rohingya child named Tamim still remains missing.
On Monday, locals spotted the body floating in the Meghna River near Darbesh Bazar, under Char Nandi Union of Hatiya. They immediately informed the police. Officers from Hatiya Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
The deceased, Saiful Islam, was from Charshahi village in Chandraganj upazila of Lakshmipur district. He was the son of Sirajul Islam and served as a constable in the Bangladesh Police.
Earlier, on Sunday (June 1), the body of Hasina Khatun (30), a missing Rohingya woman, was recovered from the Meghna River.
OC of Hatiya Police Station, AKM Azmal Huda, confirmed the incident.
It is to be noted that on Saturday (May 31) afternoon, a passenger boat carrying 39 people departed from Bhasan Char towards Janata Bazar Ghat. The boat capsized near Karim Bazar after encountering strong currents and waves in the Meghna River.
So far, 36 people have been rescued alive. The bodies of one woman and one police constable have been recovered. The three-year-old Rohingya child, Tamim, is still missing.
