Cox's Bazar Correspondent

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully brought back 55 fishermen who were previously abducted by the Arakan Army from the Naf River and the Bay of Bengal at various times near Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.

The return took place on Wednesday at around 2:30 PM through the Naf River transit point in the Chowdhury Para area of Teknaf Municipality.

The matter was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ashiqur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB Teknaf-2 Battalion.

He stated that these individuals were taken at different times from the Naf River and the Bay of Bengal. Most recently, on April 8, 23 fishermen were abducted along with four trawlers. Following multiple rounds of discussions with the Arakan Army, all 55 individuals were successfully repatriated on Wednesday.

Among the returnees, 13 are Bangladeshi nationals, while the remaining 42 are residents of various Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar. Authorities are currently in the process of handing them over to their guardians and returning them to their respective camps through the police.
