BARI wins prestigious ‘ISSCA Global Award-2026’

The Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has received the prestigious ‘ISSCA Global Award-2026’ in recognition of its outstanding contribution to agricultural research and innovation. The award was presented to BARI in the Crop Improvement and Production Technologies category at the Dryland Congress-2026, held in New Delhi, India recently.
The event was jointly organized by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and the Center of Excellence for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture (ISSCA).
BARI received the award in recognition of its innovative variety BARI Peanut-9. The variety is capable of thriving under adverse environmental conditions and is playing an important role in increasing agricultural productivity, strengthening food security, and enhancing the climate resilience of farmers in dry regions.
Among competitive nominations from different regions of the Global South, BARI Peanut-9 was selected for its positive impact on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and agricultural production.
The ISSCA Global Award primarily recognizes proven agricultural innovations that have strong potential for widespread adoption and can be replicated in other developing countries.
BARI Director General Dr. Md. Manzurul Kadir said, “This award is a symbol of excellence in our research. BARI Peanut-9 has demonstrated that agricultural research tailored to local needs can bring transformative changes to productivity in dryland areas. We remain committed to developing innovative technologies to ensure food security and empower farming communities.He further said that the recognition highlights Bangladesh’s growing contribution to South-South cooperation.
BARI is the country’s largest multipurpose crop research institution. The institute conducts research on more than 212 crops, including tuber crops, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, fruits and spices.
BARI continues to work tirelessly to develop high-yielding and climate-resilient crop varieties and sustainable agricultural technologies to ensure national food and nutritional security.
