Attempt to murder case against Shamim Osman, 95 others in Siddhirganj

A case has been filed in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, accusing former Member of Parliament AKM Shamim Osman and 95 others of attempted murder. The case involves an alleged attack on Md. Al-Amin (36) during an anti-discrimination movement. Additionally, 200-300 unnamed individuals have been listed as unknown accused.

The incident was confirmed by Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Al Mamun on Friday.

The case was filed late Thursday night by the victim himself at Siddhirganj Police Station.

Among the 95 named accused are Shamim Osman’s son, AKM Ayon Osman (37), nephew Azmeri Osman (45), Narayanganj Metropolitan Awami League Joint General Secretary Shah Nizam (56), Siddhirganj Thana Jubo League Convenor Matiur Rahman Mati (55), former councilor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Ward 4, Nur Uddin Mia (55), and Shahjalal Badal (42) from Ward 3, along with several other leaders of Awami League and affiliated organizations.

According to the case statement, on the night of August 3, around 8:30 PM, the accused allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on anti-oppression activists and protesters at Mitali Market near the Signboard area of Siddhirganj.

The accused reportedly fired indiscriminately at the crowd and attacked with various local weapons. During the attack, Al-Amin suffered a severe injury to his right hand after being struck with an iron rod, which resulted in a fractured bone. He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment by bystanders.

 

Dengue cases exceed 2,003 in N’ganj

Dengue cases continue to rise in Narayanganj, with the total number of reported cases surpassing 2,000. In the last 24 hours, nine new dengue cases were recorded, bringing the total number of infections in the district to 2,003.

According to the district health department, there have been no reported deaths within Narayanganj itself. However, fatalities linked to dengue from Narayanganj have been recorded in Dhaka, as per the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

As of Friday morning (November 15), the daily report issued by the Narayanganj Civil Surgeon’s Office revealed that 102 dengue patients are currently hospitalized across the district. These include facilities such as Narayanganj 300-bed hospital, Victoria General Hospital, and health complexes in Araihazar, Bandar, Rupganj, and Sonargaon.

So far, 1,901 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
