All shuttered sugar mill will be restarted: Industries adviser

Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Friday said all the shuttered sugar mill of the country would be brought back to service for reducing the country’s import reliance.
To this end, a taskforce has been formed for determining the potential obstacles to restarting the mills, the adviser said while inaugurating the season’s sugarcane crushing activities at Gopalpur North Bengal Sugar Mill in Lalpur upazila, Natore.
The government is also planning to introduce employment opportunities through new factories and other means in rural areas where lack of industrial sites has obstructed economic progress, Adilur said.
“It we can work in collaboration with people, we can begin an era of change where the future elected government will be able to accelerate the momentum of change-making. We are working with this very goal,” he told the audience.
Also present at the event were: Industries Ministry Senior Secretary Zakia Sultana, Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) Chairman Dr Lipika Bhadra, BSFIC Director ATM Kamrul Islam, Natore Deputy Administrator Asma Shahin, Police Superintendent Md Marufat Hossain, sugarcane farmer Hasan Raza and more.
