Anti-rabies vaccination programme for dogs begins in Bagerhat

Anti-rabies vaccination has begun for stray and street dogs to reduce the risk of various diseases including rabies in Bagerhat town on Wednesday morning.
The program was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten at the municipality premises under the management of Bagerhat Municipality.
Bagerhat Additional Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Administrator Mejbah Uddin, Municipality Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Al Masum, vaccination expert and dog expert team member Simon and other officials and employees of the municipality were present at the inauguration ceremony of the anti-rabies vaccination program for dogs.
Bagerhat Municipality authorities said that the number of stray dogs in the city has increased. In the last three months, 7,500 people have received anti-rabies vaccination at the 250-bed Bagerhat District Hospital. In this situation, an initiative has been taken to provide anti-rabies vaccination to dogs in Bagerhat city to reduce the risk of deadly diseases like rabies spreading to humans through dogs. Bagerhat Municipality has signed an agreement with Feni's 'Dog Expert Team' to implement this program. Members of this Dog Expert Team will gradually give anti-rabies vaccination to stray dogs in different areas of the municipality as well as domestic dogs found on the roads. This will reduce the risk of rabies spreading among humans.
