48-hour blockade ends in Lalmonirhat after train resumption commitment

Hatibandha, (Lalmonirhat) Correspondent

After nearly 48 hours, a road blockade in Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha and Patgram upazilas has ended on Tuesday. Protesters were demanding the start of the intercity "Burimari Express" train service from Burimari.

Local leaders held talks with officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman, who promised to take steps soon to launch the train service from Burimari.

The train was launched on March 12 last year, but it now runs from Lalmonirhat to Dhaka, not from Burimari as planned. Locals say this leaves hundreds of thousands without easy train access.

They blocked roads from April 27, causing heavy traffic and delays for buses, trucks, and passengers. They warned they will protest again if the train isn’t started soon.
