The 33rd founding anniversary of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) was celebrated with a colourful events. The day was officially inaugurated by releasing balloons and pigeons at the RMP headquarters on Tuesday morning with Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian in the chair. 

Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Khondaker Azim Ahmed NDC was present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. 

Special guests were Additional IGP Mir Rezaul Alam, Principal Officer of Sarada Police Academy, Rajshahi Range DIG Mohammad Shahjahan, Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar, District Superintendent of Police Farzana Islam, Commander of RAB-5 Lt. Col. Masud Parvez, along with senior officials and dignitaries of the administration.

Later, a colourful rally, cake cutting and a short discussion meeting were organized. Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian highlighted the 33-year success story of RMP and expressed his determination to work more dedicatedly for the welfare of the people in the future.

He said, "Since its inception on July 1, 1992, the RMP has been playing an important role in maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety. Today, it has become a modern, well-organized and self-reliant unit."

Initially consisting of 4 police stations in an area of just 92 square kilometers, the RMP now covers an area of 472 square kilometers. Currently, it has 12 police stations under its jurisdiction - Boalia Model, Rajpara, Chandrima, Motihar, Kantakhali, Belpukur, Shah Makhdum, Airport, Paba, Kashiadanga, Damkura and Karnahar.

There are also 12 police outposts and 3 special police teams. The unit's activities are carried out through 4 crime divisions - Boyalia, Kashiadanga, Shah Makhdum and Motihar.

Under the RMP are the CTSB (Counter Terrorism), Riot Control Division, Traffic Division, Intelligence Branch, Prosecution, Estate and Development, Welfare Branch and Victim Support Center.

At the time of its inception, the manpower was 1,135, but it has now grown to 3,414. Through manpower increase and structural expansion, the RMP has become a capable and effective force today.

The Commissioner further said, "The contribution of RMP to the status that Rajshahi city has gained as a city of cleanliness, peaceful environment and education is immense. This force has earned the trust of the city residents by providing civic services along with enforcing the law."

It is mentioned that after the formation of Rajshahi district in 1772, Rajshahi Municipality was established in 1876, which was upgraded to a City Corporation in 1991 and RMP started its journey in 1992 around this corporation area.

Now , RMP is not just a law enforcement force, but a reliable institution that ensures the pride of Rajshahi and the safety of its people.
