The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) has arrested a woman accused of twisting and torturing her two-month-old nephew's leg over a family dispute in Narsingdi.

The arrestee, Farjana Akter Lota Begm, 32, the prime accused in the case, was apprehended from Rupganj in Narayanganj on Frida noon , according to RAB officials.

Md. Ariful Islam, the camp commander of RAB-11 in Narsingdi, stated that a video showcasing the brutal torture of the infant recently went viral on social media, sparking nationwide outrage and concern. Following the incident, after a formal case was lodged at the Madhabdi Police Station, RAB initiated a shadow investigation and stepped up intelligence surveillance.

Using information technology, RAB tracked down Lota Begum, who had gone into hiding in the Rupganj area, and arrested her during a special operation. Following primary interrogation, she will be handed over to Madhabdi Police Station for further legal proceedings.

A case was filed on July 14 (Tuesday) night by Narsingdi district Probation Officer Riza Akhter.
The victim's uncle Kawsar Ahmed, 33, and grandfather Almas Mia, 60, have also been named as accomplices. They were previously arrested by the police and are currently in jail.

According to police and local sources, the victim's mother, Saifa Akter, had left her sleeping baby on a bed to go to the washroom. Suspicious of her sister-in-law's past behavior, she secretly left her mobile phone's video recording on.

The video footage later revealed Lota entering the room and violently twisting the infant’s leg.

While the family originally attempted to settle the matter internally and refrain from filing an official complaint, the local administration intervened to ensure social justice after the horrifying video gained widespread attention online.
