Journalists in Gaibandha held a human chain and protest rally demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of S.M. Hayat Uddin, Bagerhat Correspondent of the Daily Bhorer Chetona, who was brutally murdered.
The protest was organized by the Gaibandha Press Club on Monday.
The human chain and protest rally took place in front of the Gaibandha Press Club on Kachari Bazar Road.
Among those who spoke at the event were Gaibandha Press Club General Secretary Idrisuzzaman Mona, Vice Presidents Rezaunnabi Raju, Khaled Hossain, and Shafiul Islam, Organizational Secretary Rajatkanti Barman, Executive Member Golam Rabbani Musa, Bhorer Chetona staff reporter Wasim Reza, and district representative K.M. Babul. Journalists and media leaders from various levels of the Gaibandha Press Club were also present.
Speakers at the rally said that violence and repression against journalists are increasing across the country. Many journalists are being attacked or even killed to silence their voices.
They also demanded action against Ful Mia for harassing journalist Moinul Islam in Lakshmipur. In addition, they called for the arrest and suspension of Gaibandha Education Engineering Department Executive Engineer Belal Ahmed and Assistant Engineer Shishir Chandra Debnath, who have been accused in a case of harassing a female journalist.
