IIIT-BIIT Summer School held in Gazipur

The Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT), in collaboration with the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), successfully organized the IIIT-BIIT Summer School at Salna Parjatan Resort and Picnic Spot in Gazipur recently. 

The five-day residential academic program brought together globally renowned scholars, young researchers, and students under the theme: “Interacting Thoughts between Reason, Revelation, and Values.”

The event featured intellectually rich sessions covering a wide range of topics, including: The Industrial Revolution and the Integration of Knowledge; Revelation vs. Engineering and Technology; Comparative Educational Thoughts from Western and Islamic Perspectives; Mind Mapping for Creative Learning; Qur’anic and Sunnah-Based Approaches to Maqasid al-Shariah and Fiqh; From Colonization to the Clash of Civilizations: Implications for the Ummah; Islamic Perspectives on Academic Writing; Comparative Economic Thoughts; How SMET Education is Destined to Take Us to the Ultimate Truth; Empowering Youth and Emerging Technology; Knowledge, Education, and Civilization; Challenges, Priorities, and Scope of Research for Muslim Researchers; Designing Research for Grants and Publications; Decolonizing Research Methods; Secularism, Imperialism, and Modernism; Critical Thinking.

More than 50 participants had the opportunity to learn directly from eminent scholars representing prestigious institutions worldwide. Distinguished resource persons included Prof. Dr. Omar Hasan Kasule Sr., IIIT & King Fahad Medical City, KSA , Prof. Dr. Muhammed Fazli Ilahi, former VC, IUT & AUST , Dr. Rosnani Hashim, emerita Professor, IIUM , Prof. Dr. Yusuf M. Islam, VC, Southeast University & VP, BIIT, Prof. Dr. Radwan Jamal Yousef Elatrash (IIUM), Prof. Dr. Abdullah Al Ahsan, East West University, Chicago, Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan, IIUM , Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omar Farooq ,UIU, Dhaka , Prof. Dr. Nazmul Haque Robi , Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute , Prof. Dr. Farid Ahmed , Johns Hopkins University, Dr. M. Abdul Aziz , Director General of BIIT and Visiting Professor of IUT , Prof. Dr. Mahmudul Alam , BRAC University , Dr. Muhammad Asadullah, University of Regina, Canada, Shaikh Musa Al Hafiz, Fellow of BIIT , Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, British Saffer Education & Cambridge Islamic Centre, UK and Dr. Zabed Mohammad, University of Windsor, Canada 

As part of the academic enrichment, insightful book reviews were also conducted on the following notable works: Maqasid al-Shariah: A Civilizational Perspective by Mazen Hashem; Crisis in the Muslim Mind and The Qur’anic Worldview by Abdul Hamid AbuSulayman; Al-Tawhid: Its Implications for Thought and Life by Ismail al-Faruqi; Usul al-Fiqh by Shah Abdul Hannan; Toward Our Reformation by Dr. Muhammad Omar Farooq.

The closing ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. M. Abdul Aziz presided over the event. 

Among the special guests were Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Chairman of First Security Islami Bank and former MD of Islami Bank Bangladesh, and Mir Lutful Kabir Saadi, Executive Committee Member of BIIT. Prof. Dr. Mahmudul Alam of BRAC University also attended.

Dr. Mumtahena, Academic Fellow of BIIT and Course Coordinator, delivered the opening address at the closing session. Certificates, books, bags, and awards were distributed among participants in recognition of their commitment and excellence. 

The program was moderated by Dr. Ibrahim Khalil Anwari, Abdul Kader Zilani, and Anisur Rahman Ershad. The Summer School was widely praised for its academic rigor, ethical focus, and its contribution to the global discourse on Islamic scholarship and thought leadership.
