During fascist AL rule Jamaat faced worst persecution : Bandarban Jamaat Ameer

Sohel Kanti Nath, Bandarban

During the fascist rule of the former Awami League government, Jamaat faced the worst persecution in history. Activists were not allowed to take to the streets. Many leaders and activists were imprisoned for years without treatment under various fabricated cases.

This was stated by Bandarban district Jamaat Ameer S.M. Abduch Chalam Azad at a press conference held on Friday  morning at the Bandarban Press Club on the occasion of a workers' and dignitaries gathering.

At that time, he said, many top leaders of Jamaat were hanged without any crime. “We had to organize programs in secret. Even then, central leaders visited Bandarban—but secretly. However, after August 5, the student masses have brought freedom for the people of the country.”

He further said that from the very beginning, Jamaat has been conducting the same stream of politics. He expressed hope that tomorrow’s historic workers’ gathering at Rajar Math will be a memorable one.

Among others present at the press conference were Bandarban district Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and nominated parliamentary candidate Advocate Abul Kalam, Secretary Maulana Abdul Awal, and leaders from various levels of Jamaat, as well as journalists from print and electronic media.

Meanwhile, for the first time in over a decade, the district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami is organizing a rally at the historic Rajar Math in the hill district of Bandarban. Central Jamaat Secretary and former MP Prof  Mia Golam Porwar will be present as the chief guest at tomorrow’s workers and dignitaries gathering. The party has been campaigning over the past few days not only in the district town but also at the upazila level to make the gathering a success.
