The Deputy Commissioner's Cup Football Tournament-2026 has been inaugurated in Satkhira.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdullah Harun inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest at the Satkhira District Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdullah Harun said that the importance of sports in building a healthy and strong nation is immense. The Prime Minister has given great importance to sports. There is no alternative to sports to build a drug-free society. Therefore, we must say 'no to drugs, yes to sports'.

He said, along with education, sports and culture play an important role in building a nation. The sports fields of Satkhira are always bustling. The soil of this district is very fertile for sports. Many players have emerged from Satkhira at the national level. He expressed hope that the District Commissioner's Cup football tournament will create opportunities for new players to develop their talents.

Satkhira Police Superintendent Abu Saleh Md. Ashraful Alam was present as a special guest at the inaugural ceremony presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kausar Aziz. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sheikh Mainul Islam Main, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Ripon Biswas, Member Secretary of the District Sports Association Abu Zahid Dablu, CO of Satkhira Municipality Md. Asaduzzaman, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Arnab Dutta, UNOs of all Upazilas, District Sports Officer Md. Mahbubur Rahman, distinguished social worker and sports enthusiast Dr. Abul Kalam Babla, administrative officers at various levels and leaders of the district sports association were present at the time.

A total of eight teams, including seven upazilas and Satkhira Municipality, are participating in the tournament organized by the district administration, district sports organization, and district football federation.

According to the tournament schedule, Shyamnagar Upazila and Kalaroa Upazila will face each other in the opening match on August 17, Satkhira Municipality and Kaliganj Upazila on August 18, Satkhira Sadar and Tala Upazila on August 19, and Debhata and Asashuni Upazila on August 20. Each match will start at 3 pm.

Two semi-finals will be held on August 22 and 23 with the four winning teams from the quarter-finals. The tournament final will be held on August 30 at 3 pm.
