
Campaign in Padma to protect mother Hilsa, boats auctioned, nets destroyed

The administration and concerned parties have seized nets and boats and held an open auction in the Padma River in Goalando Upazila of Rajbari to implement the government-announced ban to protect the mother Hilsa.
On Monday morning, Goalando UNO and Executive Magistrate Md. Nahidur Rahman seized 50,000 meters of illegal current nets and a boat in a drive with an engine-powered trawler in the Chattar Member Para and Kalabagan areas of Daulatdia Union on the Padma River.
Also present at the time were Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Anwarul Islam Pilot, OC in-charge of Daulatdia Naval Police Outpost Trinath Saha, Petty Officer Shahin Alam, who was in charge of the Coast Guard to protect the mother Hilsa, and a team of police and Coast Guard.
In this regard, UNO Md. Nahidur Rahman said, "A strict campaign is being conducted to protect the mother Hilsa on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner and this campaign will be conducted every day. During this time, fishermen in the river will be arrested, along with their nets and other equipment, and those arrested will be sentenced to different terms according to the Fisheries Act. The campaign will continue until the government announces the ban period."
