Agriculturist Olympiad 2026 held at GAU

With the aim of bringing together talent, dreams, and opportunities centered around agriculture, ‘The Agriculturist Olympiad 2026’ was held at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU). Under the theme “Where Every Brilliant Mind in Agriculture Comes Together,” the event was organized on Wednesday evening at Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the university.
The event was organized by the Gazipur Agricultural University Chapter of the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) Bangladesh, with the support of Kamarun Agro Farm. The program featured an award-giving ceremony and a career counseling session.
The chief guest was Prof Dr. G.K.M. Mostafizur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Gazipur Agricultural University. Professor Dr. Md. Shafiul Islam Afrad, Treasurer of GAU, attended as the special guest. In the career counseling session, Md. Hasibul Hasan, Upazila Agriculture Officer of Kaliganj, and Dr. Sattwikes Paul, Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery and Radiology at GAU, spoke as guest speakers.
The program was chaired by Toufikul Islam, Local Director of the IAAS Bangladesh GAU Chapter. Also present were Prof Dr. Md. Mosiul Islam, Director of Research at GAU, around 500 students from different faculties, and members of the IAAS Bangladesh GAU Chapter.
Toufikul Islam delivered the welcome speech. Later, during the career counseling session, Dr. Sattwikes Paul discussed opportunities for higher education abroad and career development.
Special guest Prof Dr. Md. Shafiul Islam Afrad emphasized the importance of strengthening students’ skills, leadership qualities, and professional preparation alongside their academic studies.
Later, the results of ‘The Agriculturist Olympiad 2026’ were announced and prizes were distributed. Among the 500 registered students, those who qualified in the examination and secured positions in the top ten received prizes from the Vice-Chancellor and invited guests.
Mosa. Tafassia Tawhid secured first place, Md. Muhit Al Zubayer stood second, and Sabrina Salam secured third place. The winners received prize money, crests, and certificates. The Vice-Chancellor also presented honorary souvenirs to the invited guests.
As the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. G.K.M. Mostafizur Rahman said, “Agriculture is no longer limited to growing crops in the fields; it has now become one of the key areas of science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurship development, and addressing global challenges.”
The event concluded with the closing remarks of the chair, Toufikul Islam.
