Woman tortured in Jhenaidah: Hair cut off, chili powder rubbed on her body over alleged extramarital affair

In Koratipara village of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila, a woman named Suchitra Biswas was allegedly subjected to physical assault, had her hair cut off, and had chili powder rubbed on her body—all over accusations of an extramarital affair. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon. The victim has since filed a case at the Sadar Police Station.
According to local sources, a woman named Tonni Khatun had been alleging that Suchitra Biswas—the wife of Monmotho Biswas—was involved in an extramarital affair with Anwar Hossain, a resident of the same village who works at the Kaliganj Land Office. On Thursday afternoon, Tonni Khatun arrived at Suchitra Biswas’s home, accompanied by five others, including her two daughters, Oni and Koni, and her son, Shuvo. It is alleged that during the encounter, Suchitra was beaten, her hair was cut off, and chili powder was rubbed onto her body.
When neighbors, alerted by Suchitra’s cries, arrived at the scene, the perpetrators fled. Later that night, Suchitra Biswas filed a case at the Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station.
OC of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, Md. Asad-uz-Zaman, stated that operations are underway to arrest the individuals named in the case.
