Widow woman farmer loses everything : Fish worth Tk 6 lakh poisoned to death in Kalapara

A widowed woman farmer in Kalapara has lost everything due to a brutal act committed overnight. Allegations have emerged that miscreants poisoned a fish enclosure in Kalapara, Patuakhali, killing fish worth approximately Tk 6 lakh.
The victim, Monowara Begum (50), has filed a written complaint with Kalapara Police Station regarding the incident.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning at Kankuni Para village under Baliatali Union of the upazila.
According to the complaint, Monowara Begum stated that about five years ago she leased the fish enclosure from a local institution named Shishu Palli Academy and started fish farming there. After the death of her husband, this enclosure was her only means of livelihood.
The complaint further mentioned that between around 12 midnight on Friday and Saturday morning, two to three unidentified miscreants trespassed into the enclosure and applied poison due to prior enmity. As a result, they took away fish worth around Tk 4 lakh, including Rui, Catla, Grass Carp and Mrigal of different varieties. The remaining fish worth about Tk 2 lakh died from poisoning and were found floating in the water of the enclosure.
In a tearful voice, Monowara Begum said, “After my husband’s death, I struggled a lot to run this fish enclosure. Today everything is finished. I am now destitute. I demand exemplary punishment for those who committed such an inhumane act.”
Sub-Inspector (SI) Zakir Hossain of Kalapara Police Station said, “We have received a complaint regarding the killing of fish by poisoning. Legal action will be taken after investigation.
