Two youths named Yasin and Sipon were shot while protesting drunkenness in Rupganj, Narayanganj. One of the injured has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the other to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex.
The incident took place on Friday night in the Tongirghat area of Murapara in the upazila.
The shot Yasin is the son of Idu Mia of Haulipara area of Murapara and Sipon is the son of Alauddin of Tongirghat area.
Rupganj Police Station OC Tariqul Islam said that around 11 pm, Yasin was going to his cousin's house with his wife after the wedding ceremony. On the way, a local youth named Sohrab abused them while intoxicated, and Yasin protested. Later, he went to the house of local Ahidullah with his cousin Sipon and reported the incident. There, Sohrab got angry and opened fire on them with a pistol. Yasin was shot in the head and Sipon in the leg.
They were first taken to a local private hospital. Sipon was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Yasin to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex.
Soon after the incident, the police recovered bullet shells from the scene and detained three people for questioning. Legal action is underway in this incident.
