Terrorist attack on journalist Munna in Ctg massively condemned

Journalist Milad Uddin Munna has reportedly been the victim of a terrorist attack in Sandwip upazila of Chattogram district.
According to reports, he was abducted and brutally assaulted after refusing to pay extortion money. The attackers also allegedly snatched his motorcycle, mobile phone, and wallet during the assault, which took place on Friday in the Enam Nahar Mor area of the upazila.
Following the attack, Munna was initially given first aid at the Upazila Health Complex. Due to the deterioration of his condition, he was referred to CMCH for advanced treatment on Saturday.
Confirming the incident, Sandwip Upazila Health Officer Dr. Manas Biswas said, "A critically injured person named Milad Uddin Munna was admitted here. Due to the worsening of his condition, he was referred to CMCH for better treatment."
Regarding the matter, OC of Sandwip Police Station Shariful Islam said , “No formal complaint or case has been filed yet. We will take necessary legal steps once we receive a written complaint.”
The journalist community in Chattogram has expressed grave concern and outrage over the incident. Social media has seen a wave of condemnation and protest.
Many journalists from Chattogram have taken to social platforms to protest and condemn the attack on journalist Milad Uddin Munna. One senior journalist wrote, “Those who carried out this attack belong to the very political group Munna had helped selflessly for years. His home in Chattogram was a refuge for many oppressed activists.”
During the tenure of the current Awami League government, Munna provided jobs to many journalists who lost their positions due to the shutdown of several media outlets. At the time, intelligence officials labeled him a BNP supporter with links to Jamaat-Shibir. His home often hosted BNP leaders, and some even stayed there while attending court hearings. In 2022, the government shut down his online news portal. Back in 2017, his father was also assaulted by those aligned with fascist ideologies of that time.
Numerous journalists commented on the Facebook post of a senior journalist regarding the attack.
Monirul Islam Parvez of ATN News wrote: “I strongly condemn this. If journalists are still being attacked even after July, it is unacceptable. The perpetrators must face exemplary punishment.”
Mojumdar Nazim, Chattogram Bureau Chief of Bangladesh Pratidin, wrote: “I strongly condemn the attack. The extortionist criminals must be arrested immediately.”
Saiful Islam Shilpi, Bureau Chief of 71 TV in Chattogram, stated: “This is a tragic incident. The culprits must be punished.”
Journalist Kamal Parvez said: “Milad Uddin Munna is a dear one. It’s deeply saddening that he was attacked in such a terrorist manner in his own area. I have no words to express the outrage. I strongly condemn it and urge the administration to bring the attackers to justice.”
Journalist Riton Mojumdar wrote: “I strongly condemn this attack. Those involved must be brought under the law.”
Journalist Mukul Mohi wrote: “Our politicians must move away from the culture of making everyone their sycophant. Otherwise, autocracy will keep resurfacing.”
Md. Mahbubur Rahman wrote: “I strongly condemn the attack on Munna, a member of Chattogram Press Club. I demand the immediate arrest of the attackers.”
Journalist SM Pintu wrote: “I strongly condemn and protest the terrorist attack on journalist Munna. I demand that the attackers be immediately brought under the law. Justice must be served, regardless of party or personal affiliations.”
Jahangir Alam, Bureau Chief of Ajker Bizness Bangladesh and a member of Chattogram Press Club, wrote: “I strongly condemn the attack and demand the perpetrators be brought to justice.”
Shamsuddin Chowdhury wrote: “I condemn this attack. Such repression of journalists should never occur under this government. The culprits must receive exemplary punishment. I pray for the swift recovery of my dear brother Munna.”
