Selling fertilizer at double price from secret warehouse showing crisis in Ghatail alleged

Md Biplab Hossain, Ghatail (Tangail

Even though there is government allocation of fertilizers to BCIC and BADC dealers in Ghatail, no fertilizer is available to  retail dealers. As a result, farmers are not getting fertilizer. They have to buy it at double price. Contemporary investigations have revealed this  picture of manipulation of fertilizers.

UNO said that there is a shortage of fertilizers in the upazila. On the other hand, the Agriculture Officer said there is no shortage of fertilizers. By investigating the sources of the contradictory statements of the two officials, the statements of both the officials are correct. But manipulation is elsewhere.

The number of BCIC fertilizer dealers in this upazila is 18 and BADC dealers are 20. The amount of different types of fertilizer distributed by the government to dealers is almost the same. The government has appointed a retail dealer in each union ward. Retail dealers will buy fertilizer from BCIC dealers and sell it. But they complain that they don't get even a drop of fertilizer. So where does the fertilizer allocated to the dealers go? Where do retail dealers get fertilizers? According to the retail dealers, they buy and sell fertilizers at high prices from different places.

Ashish Kumar Saha was the dealer of BCIC Fertilizer in Sagardighi Bazar of Sagardighi Union. His company is Rajeev Enterprises. After the death of Ashish Kumar, his son Rajeev Saha took over the company. Another son of his, Sanjay Saha, ventured into fertilizer and pesticide business separately.

On November 5, 16 retail fertilizer and pesticide traders complained to the upazila administration. In the complaint, Rajeev illegally stored and sold a large quantity of fertilizers in a warehouse on Baghara Road in Sagardighi Bazar, apart from the fertilizers allocated by the government. But he does not give even a bag of fertilizer to the retail dealers.

TSP is sold at Tk 2,480 per bag, against the government fixed price of Tk 1,350

16 traders complained to the upazila administration in this regard.

Sanjay Saha is illegally selling unapproved adulterated pesticides of various companies. The land is losing its fertility.

Ashok Chand Mondal, a BCIC retail dealer in Sagardighi Bazar, said, 'Every month BCIC dealers get fertilizer allocation, but we don't. I got some fertilizer only once in seven years. That too, only urea, I did not get any other fertilizer.'

A dealer named Shahidul Islam said that he has not received even one drop of fertilizer in six years. Dealer did not get DO when approached Rajeev Enterprises. But even if there is fertilizer in the house, the dealer does not give fertilizer. When I went for fertilizer repeatedly, the dealer said that this fertilizer is not allocated fertilizer, but bought from another place. He said, "The fertilizer allocated for Ghatail is sold at a high price in Fulbaria Upazila of Mymensingh without giving it to us."

Rajeev Sahar claims that the allegations against him are baseless. Fertilizer is not sold outside the upazila. He also has no secret warehouse.

Businessman Sanjay Saha said, 'I am a dealer of some companies, I sell pesticides of those companies. A representative of some pesticide company gave it to me.'

Dhalapara, Sagardighi, Laxinder, Rasulpur and Thanhapur unions of Ghatail upazila have red soil color. Gold is produced in this soil. Banana, dragon fruit, papaya and turmeric are widely cultivated. Sugarcane plantation has been added this year. Farmers said to grow such crops

Fertilizer demand is high in the areas. Due to the high demand of TSP fertilizer, they are not getting this fertilizer at the government price. Buy at twice the price. They claim that the government price list pasted in the shop is just a show.

Farmer Rajibul Islam said that when he went to the retail dealers, they said that there is no fertilizer. When going to buy from the dealers, they said that there is no fertilizer. Where does the fertilizer allocated by the government go?

Farmers complain that fertilizers are not available in dealers' shops, but there is no dearth of fertilizers in secret warehouses. Double the price.

On the basis of these words, this reporter stayed at Sagardighi Bazar on the evening of October 10. Mortuz Ali, owner of Ma Traders, is a BADC dealer. His shop is in Sagardighi Bazar. Directed by his son Aminul Islam. His secret warehouse of fertilizer is on Sakhipur Road. From there, during the sale of fertilizer, the buyer said. With Alamgir. He said that he bought TSP fertilizer for 2 thousand 480 taka per bag. But the official price of fertilizer per bag of 50 kg weight is 1 thousand 350 taka. Aminul Islam said, 'I sell fertilizer at government rates.

According to Upazila Agriculture Officer Dilshad Jahan, they are constantly monitoring the fertilizer shops. Retailers are getting fertilizers from dealers. There is no fertilizer shortage in the upazila. Action will be taken if there is a complaint that the farmer has bought fertilizer at a higher price. Received written complaints from retail dealers. They will be investigated and action will be taken.

UNO. Abu Saeed has asked for additional allocation by resolution considering the shortage of fertilizer in the upazila. The upazila agriculture officer has been asked to look into the matter after receiving a copy of the complaint made by the retail dealers
