Protest in Faridpur against attacks on Muslims in West Bengal, US deal

 Mahbub Piyal, Faridpur

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam held a protest march and rally in Faridpur on Friday, condemning attacks on Muslims in West Bengal and demanding the cancellation of an alleged illegal agreement between Bangladesh’s interim government and the United States.

After Jummah prayers, leaders and activists of the organization gathered in front of the Faridpur Press Club. A protest procession preceded the rally, marching through various city streets before ending at the press club.

Speakers at the rally alleged that incidents of torture against Muslims in West Bengal are increasing. They condemned the violence and urged immediate steps to stop it. They also called for the cancellation of any “illegal agreement” between the interim government and the U.S., saying the public would not accept any decision against the country’s independence and sovereignty.

The speakers further urged the Muslim world to unite.

District President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Mufti Kamruzzaman, General Secretary Maulana Ismail Hossain, President of Imam Kalyan Foundation Maulana Mansur Ahmed, District President of Chhatra Jamiat Mohammad Mazharul Islam, and Finance Secretary of Jubo Jamiat Enayet Talukder were among those present.

The program concluded with prayers and munajat, led by District President Mufti Kamruzzaman.
