Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the long-awaited Family Card programme in Bogura Sadar Upazila on Mar 10.
This will mark his first visit to the northern district since assuming office as head of the government.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam shared the development on Friday at the shrine of Shah Sultan Balkhi in Shibganj's Mahasthangarh before the Jummah prayers.
He noted that Ward 3 of Shakharia Union in Bogura Sadar has been handpicked for the pilot phase, and field-level data collection to identify potential beneficiaries is currently under way.
Kalam Azad, coordinator for the BNP media cell in the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, said separate district and Upazila committees have been formed to oversee the rollout.
Supervision committees are also active at the union and ward levels to ensure the process remains seamless, he added.
He said each cardholding family will receive Tk 2,500 per month in financial assistance.
Women from extremely poor, poor, and lower-income households across the country will come under the scheme.
“One woman from each family will be registered as the cardholder. In a ward, all families deemed eligible will receive the Family Card. The pilot will run for four months,” he said.
The programme will then be expanded to every Upazila in phases, Azad added.
