Literary scholar Mamun-ur-Rashid gets Sher-e-Bangla Award in Barishal

On the occasion of the 153rd birth anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla Abul Kashem (AK) Fazlul Haque, a literary conference was held in Barishal.
The literary conference was organized by Bangladesh Cultural Alliance, Barishal at 9 am on Friday at the Barishal Divisional Government Public Library auditorium. More than a hundred poets, writers, literary figures, journalists and cultural figures of Barisal division participated in it.
Barisal City Corporation Administrator Advocate Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin was present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the conference. The special guests were Professor Abu Taher Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Chairman of the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Barisal, Mahbubul Haque, Principal of Amritlal Dey College, writers and researchers, and eminent personalities.
The program was presided over by SM Sabbir Newaz Sagar, convener of Bangladesh Cultural Alliance, Barisal. Poet Pabitra Mukherjee moderated the program.
Poetry reading was held in the second session of the conference. The chief guest was poet Abdul Hai Sikder, chairman of BSS and editor of Dainik Jugantor. Poets Nayan Ahmed, Shaheen Chowdhury, Ali Hafiz and Arif Ahmed Munna were present as special guests. Poet Mustafa Habib presided over the session.
The literary conference discussed the life and work of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque and highlighted his memories and contributions. During this time, poet Zaman Monir and writer Mahmud Yusuf discussed the book 'Shesh-e-Bangla: Jibon o Karma' written by Professor Md. Moslem Uddin Sikder and 'Chhotder Sher-e-Bangla' published on Sher-e-Bangla.
The chief guest poet Abdul Hai Sikder presented the Sher-e-Bangla Honorary Medal to the poets, writers and literary figures at the event. Literary figure Md. Mamun-or-Rashid received the honorary medal as a journalist and literary figure. His short stories Prothom Prem, Saju, Takar Bandhu and Salil Samadhi were well received by the readers of various magazines including Sahitya Paata.
