 International Literacy Day 2026 was observed in Brahmanbaria today with a colorful rally and discussion meeting, organized jointly by the District Administration and the Bureau of Non-Formal Education.

Held at the District Commissioner’s conference room on Tuesday, the discussion meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Md. Abu Sayeed as the chief guest. Executive Magistrate Rumana Akter moderated the event.

Speaking as special guests were Superintendent of Police Representative Abu Sayeed, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Ehsan Murad, a representative from the Civil Surgeon's office, District Education Officer Jahangir Alam, and District Primary Education Officer Shamsur Rahman. Headteachers Fatema Dinar of Medda East Government Primary School, Md. Ali Faysal of Bhadughar South Government Primary School, and Hasina Chowdhury of Bhadughar East Government Primary School, alongside two students from Shaheed Lutfar Rahman Government Primary School, also addressed the audience.

This year, the day was observed under the theme "Literacy for People, the Planet, and Prosperity." Highlighting the theme, speakers emphasized that universal literacy is essential for sustainable development, poverty alleviation, and building a prosperous society. They stressed the importance of expanding beyond traditional literacy to ensure digital and life-skills literacy in today's technology-driven world.

Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila Primary Education Officer Safia Begum, assistant upazila primary education officers, teachers, students, and journalists were present at the meeting.
