National Citizens Party (NCP) Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud said, "If Sheikh Hasina had not fled on August 5 Mass Uprising, she would probably be living underground or in a mirror today."
He said that today, I got has the opportunity to speak in front of the people because the mass uprising was successful.
He made the remarks at a brief rally after inspecting geobag dumping work at a river erosion-affected area in Hatiyar Chairman Ghat area on Friday afternoon.
Hannan Masud said, "I am your child. I will never ask you for votes, I will never tell you to vote for me. If you find a better candidate than me, vote for him and make him victorious—I have no objection." However, he urged the people to make conscious decisions for the overall development of the island.
Calling on the people present to stop internal conflicts, he said, "All of you should promise not to fight or clash among yourselves anymore. BNP, Jamaat, NCP—no matter which party you belong to, if we create chaos among ourselves, the whole country will have a negative perception of us."
Hannan Masud also said, "I am not a minister or advisor to the government. I do not have any special powers. Still, just as you share your joys and sorrows with me, I also try to develop them by informing the government concerned. My own relatives have also lost everything in the river erosion, so I understand this pain."
He said a delegation from Japan will visit the island at the end of this month to assess investment opportunities in Hatiya. He is optimistic that if given the right opportunity to work, Hatiya can be developed into a more beautiful island than Saint Martin's within the next five years.
Local leaders including Jatiya Nagorik Party's Noakhali district organizer Kazi Tanvir, Yasin Arafat, Mehedi Hasan Simanto, and Hatia Upazila chief coordinator Shamshal Tibrij were present at the event.
