Hundreds of farmers in trouble after sowing low-quality Boro seeds in Sherpur

Khorshed Alam,  Sherpur

Hundreds of farmers in Jhenaigati, Sherpur, have been in trouble after sowing low-quality seeds during the current Boro season. The paddy in these farmers' lands has died and become rotten. As a result, hundreds of farmers are in extreme trouble after losing their crops. They are worried about how they will support their family members.

Talking to the farmers, it was learned that in the current Boro season, the farmers of the upazila purchase Boro rice seeds of the Bri 96 variety from dealers and plant them at the beginning of the season. But due to the low-quality seeds, the paddy plants in the fields have died and become rotten. The rice plants are not sprouting. Again, even if the sprouts sprout in some lands, they are dead. Hundreds of acres of paddy have been damaged in this way during the current Boro season.

The affected farmers are left penniless as the crops in their fields have been damaged.

A written complaint has been filed with the Upazila Agriculture Officer on behalf of the farmers seeking justice against the dealers.

Upazila Agriculture Officer, Md. Farhad Hossain confirmed the incident and said that an investigation has already been started into the matter. Action will be taken against the accused after investigation.
