
Human chain demanding steps to prevent severe river erosion in Munshiganj

A human chain and mahfil were held in Dighirpar, Rakhirkandi-Dewankandi and Shiloi areas demanding urgent measures to prevent the severe erosion of the Padma River.
The human chain was formed on the banks of the Rakhirkandi Padma River in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila at 5 pm on Thursday.
Pir Saheb Dighirpar Mufti Hafizuddin spoke as the chief guest at the human chain and prayer mahfil organized by Madani Complex and the locals. Ali Asgar Ripon Mallick, President of BNP of Tongibari Upazila, spoke as the special guest.
Prominent businessmen and social workers Md. Mizanur Khan, Md. Mujibur Rahman Sardar, Shiloi Union BNP President Sekandar Badsha, Munshiganj Sadar Jubo Dal Member Secretary Mahbub Hasan Sohag, politicians, educationists, public representatives, Ulama-e-Keram, Madrasa, school, college and university teachers, students, media workers, dignitaries and people from various professions also spoke.
Ali Asgar Ripon Mallick said, no one should cut soil with illegal dredgers to prevent the terrible erosion of the river and a strong demand was made to all concerned quarters including the Bangladesh Water Development Board to take action.
