Engineer's letter warns contractor of poor quality work in Goalando municipality's sidewalk construction

Complaints have been raised about the quality of work on the construction of a 970-meter sidewalk over a paved drain along the main road in Goalanda Bazar, Rajbari.
Parking tiles are being installed on the sidewalks using only sand instead of cement, which is causing them to crumble. Questions have also been raised about the quality of the tiles. For some reason, they are breaking and crumbling.
On Tuesday afternoon, a video about substandard work went viral on social media site Facebook, sparking widespread public outrage.
In this situation, Goalanda Upazila Public Health Engineer Md. Shahidul Islam inspected the site on Wednesday morning and expressed dissatisfaction with the low quality of work. He also wrote a letter to the contractor Md. Salauddin Chowdhury warning him about the poor quality of work.
In this context, Engineer Md. Shahidul Islam said that the contractor for the construction of a 970-meter-long footpath on the paved drain under the water treatment plant under the jurisdiction of Goalanda Municipality is M/s Chowdhury Traders. This work includes the work of expanding a 532-meter RCC road. The total cost of which is 50 lakh 86 thousand 584 taka. The time limit for the work, which started on December 17, 2023, was 90 days. Which has already ended long ago. The quality of their work is also very poor. Despite my repeated warnings, the contractor Salauddin Chowdhury is not paying attention.
In this situation, he was given a final warning in a letter on Wednesday. If the remaining work is not done properly, a recommendation will be made to the higher authorities to take departmental action against him.
When asked about the bill, he said, "The contractor was given 15 lakh taka as the bill for 532 meters of RCC work in this project. No bill was given for the construction of the sidewalk with tiles."
Contractor Salauddin Chowdhury said on his mobile phone that he is facing a lot of difficulties while implementing the work. He showed the municipal administrator that tiles are being used as per his suggestion. However, the workers may not have used cement properly during the work, which is why the tiles have come off in many places. He said that they will be fixed again.
