Gambling in name of bullfighting, Netrokona-3 MP Hilali warns

A gambling gang organized in Kendua of Netrokona district has been organizing gambling games every day in the name of bullfighting.
On Wednesday morning, the gang also organized gambling games in the name of bullfighting in the Dalpa area of the upazila. When a video of the fight went viral on Facebook, it created widespread discussion and criticism in the area.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday afternoon, Alhaj Dr. Rafiqul Islam Hilali, the newly elected MP for Netrokona-3 (Atpara-Kendua) constituency, posted a warning against drugs, gambling and bullfighting on his own Facebook ID.
Shortly after the video went viral on Facebook, Dr. Rafiqul Islam Helali said in a Facebook status, "Our position against drugs, gambling and bullfighting in Kendua-Atpara is strict and uncompromising. No matter who the perpetrator is, there is no concession on the issue of law and morality. We are all together when it comes to law and morality."
The common people, including the conscious people of the upazila, are very happy with such a warning from MP Hilali. They thanked the MP for this.
According to local sources, as soon as night fell on Wednesday morning, a pre-planned public gambling game was organized in the name of bullfighting in the Dalpa area of the upazila. Eyewitnesses said that a large number of gamblers were present. Multiple posts and videos centered on the fight were spread on social media. After the video went viral, the matter came to the attention of the local police station and administration.
Some people from the area, who did not want to be named, complained that gambling has been conducted under the guise of bullfighting in various areas of Kendua Upazila and bordering Upazilas for a long time. Although the administration conducted a drive a few months ago and seized the bulls and cows brought for the fight and sold them at auction, such events have not been completely stopped. Rather, it has been alleged that an influential gambling gang is regularly active behind these events.
The conscious people of the Upazila claim that such immoral activities are not being stopped due to political influence and collusion centered on local power. Not only a mobile drive, but also a strict political decision at the top level and a social resistance movement are needed. At the same time, if there is any dishonest person involved within the administration, they demand that exemplary action be taken by identifying them.
Kendua Police Station Inspector (OC-Investigation) Mihir Ranjan Deb said that no specific information has been received yet about the bullfighting held in Dalpa Union. The matter is being investigated. If the truth is found, legal action will be taken against those involved.
