Noakhali's Begumganj Upazila Jubo League convenor and Upazila Parishad vice-chairman Nur Hossain alias Mati Masud has allegedly occupied a three-storey building in Chaumuhani Kuripara.
The allegations were made by the expatriate's wife Kajal Rekha at a press conference organized at the Noakhali TV Journalist Forum office on Saturday morning.
In a written statement to the press conference, Kajal Rekha alleged that, with the money sent from my husband's expatriate and the money saved from family expenses, I built a three-storey building on a 4-storey site in Chaumuhani Municipality in 1994 and have been living there. In 2007, when my children went to Dhaka for their studies, I gave him the responsibility of caretaker.
Although he performed his duties properly for a few days, he stopped collecting the rent from the house and sending me money from 2009 and at one stage, using the influence of the ruling Awami League, he occupied the house. Then he and another Awami League leader, Sahabuddin, started living on the ground floor.
When I came and put pressure on him, he introduced me as an Awami League leader and made various threats. Despite holding a sit-in with the then mayor, MP and various influential people of the Awami League, I did not get any redress.
Later, after pressuring me in various ways, he forced me to set the price of my 60 to 70 lakh taka flat at 35 lakh taka, and gave me a nominal 6 lakh taka in cash without giving me any money and changed the name of the house without making any papers and told me that the house was occupied. He also said that if I overreacted, he threatened to kill me and my family. I got scared and called my family helper niece Zolekha and got her out of that house.
When the terrorist escaped due to the change in the context of the student-public uprising on August 5, I came and collected all the documents including the documents of my house, holding, electricity bill, water bill, gas bill payment. Although the ground floor and third floor were rescued, the second floor has not been rescued yet. The victim, through a press conference, demanded justice through a fair investigation from the countrymen and the administration and legal punishment for the criminals.
Although the mobile phone of Begumganj Upazila Jubo League convener and Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Nur Hossain alias Mati Masud was called to inquire about the complaint, it was found switched off. Therefore, no comment was received from him on this matter. However, locals said that Mati Masud fled the area after August 5.
