
First chargesheet against 14 including Sheikh Hasina, Shamim Osman submitted in N'ganj

The first chargesheet in the Narayanganj anti-discrimination case, filed at Siddhirganj Police Station, has been submitted to court. The chargesheet names 14 individuals as accused, including a former Prime Minister and a former Home Minister. Two of the accused are already in jail.
On Tuesday, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Md. Alamgir Hossain, the investigating officer of the case, formally submitted the chargesheet.
Earlier, on September 9, 2024, following the killing of Abdul Latif during the anti-discrimination movement, his father Md. Nejabuddin filed a murder case at Siddhirganj Police Station, naming 12 people as accused.
The accused named in the chargesheet are: former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former MP Shamim Osman, Siddhirganj Thana Awami League Secretary Yasin Mia, Shamim Osman’s nephew Azmeri Osman, Siddhirganj Thana Awami League President Md. Mojibur Rahman, Shamim Osman’s son Ayon Osman, former Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Matiur Rahman Moti, Ashraf, Yasin Arafat Russell, Abu Bakar Siddique, former councillor Shahjalal Badol, and Omar Faruk.
Court Police Inspector Md. Kaiyum Khan said that on July 21, 2024, during the anti-discrimination movement, Awami League supporters attacked students and locals in front of the “Dashtola” (Ten-Storey) building in the Chittagong Road area of Siddhirganj. In that attack, Abdul Latif was shot and killed. Following this, a case was filed at Siddhirganj Police Station against the former Prime Minister, former Home Minister, former Bridges Minister, and Shamim Osman, along with nine others.
He further said that the case was later transferred to the PBI for investigation. After completing the investigation, PBI submitted a chargesheet accusing the 12 individuals originally named, along with two additional suspects. The chargesheet will be presented to the Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
The date for the next hearing has been set for September 24. Among the accused, two are currently under arrest, while the others remain fugitives.
