Extortion will be strictly suppressed in CHT : Home Adviser

The Home Affairs Adviser to the Interim Government, Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has issued a stern warning that no kind of extortion will be tolerated in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. 
 
He said, "Extortionists will be dealt with sternly. Extortion is at the root of the problems in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Everyone must come forward to stop it." 
 
He made these remarks at a press briefing organized at the BGB Sector Headquarters in Rangamati after visiting the Sajek tourist area and the 27th BGB Sajek BOP on Thursday afternoon.
 
He also said that the government is taking initiatives to reduce the use of illegal weapons in the mountains. Illegal weapons will be recovered from wherever they are, whether in the mountains or plains.
 
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser  Supradeep Chakma, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Fire Service and Civil Defense Director General Brigadier General Md. Zahid Kamal, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah, Superintendent of Police Dr. SM Farhad Hossain and other officials from various levels of administration were present.
