Bangladesh Coast Guard and police in a joint operation recovered G-3 Rifle , local firearms, and 975 rounds of live ammunition at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid informed this in a press release on Tuesdsy.
Based on secret intelligence, authorities were informed that a large consignment of both foreign and locally made firearms and live ammunition would enter Bangladesh from Myanmar via the Naf River. Acting on this information, at around 1:00 AM on Tuesday. members of the Coast Guard Eastern Zone’s BCG Station Teknaf, in coordination with police, launched a special operation near Bridge No. 14 adjacent to Teknaf Land Port.
During the operation, four individuals were spotted attempting to climb a hill across from the land port carrying several sacks. When the operation team signaled them to stop, the suspects fled toward the dense hills. The joint forces fired seven blank rounds to stop them, prompting the suspects to abandon two sacks of weapons and ammunition and escape into the hills.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one foreign-made G-3 rifle, two G-3 magazines, one locally made pistol, one locally made double-barreled shotgun, three locally made single-barreled guns, and 975 rounds of G-3 rifle ammunition. However, no suspects were apprehended during the operation as the smugglers managed to flee.
Legal procedures are currently underway regarding the seized weapons and ammunition.
