BSF kills Bangladeshi youth, locals demand return of body
Sabbir Hossain, Hatibandha, (Lalmonirhat)
A Bangladeshi youth, Hasibul Alam (24) was killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) gunfire near the Bangladesh-India border in Hatibandha, Lalmonirhat on Thursday.
The incident occurred when Hasibul and a few others were cutting grass for cattle near the border pillar area. BSF personnel reportedly fired indiscriminately, injuring Hasibul severely. He was later taken to an Indian hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Locals staged protests condemning the killing and demanded the return of Hasibul’s body for burial. The Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has formally requested the return of the body through diplomatic channels.
Residents say such harassment by BSF is common, causing widespread fear among villagers. Authorities in Bangladesh are seeking swift action and justice while urging India to stop such “inhumane actions.” No official response has been received from the BSF yet.
