Two days after going missing from Begumganj upazila in Noakhali, the body of a former Chhatra Dal leader was recovered from a septic tank of a house. However, police and the victim's relatives could not immediately state any motive behind the killing.
The deceased, Mir Hossain alias Saddam (31), was the son of late Mominul Haque of Monhor Ali Piano Bari in Rajendrapur village under Rajganj Union of the upazila. He was the former vice-president of Ward No. 7 Chhatra Dal unit of Rajganj Union and also worked as a manager at Soleman Traders, a rod-cement shop owned by Rajganj Bazar Management Committee’s General Secretary Jisan.
The body was recovered around 12:15 PM on Saturday (April 26) from the septic tank of a newly built house adjacent to Saudagar's house in Durgapur village of Noannoi Union under the district's Sadar upazila.
According to police and locals, Saddam went missing around 9:00 PM on Thursday night from his village Rajendrapur in Begumganj upazila. His family informed the Begumganj police verbally. On Saturday morning around 6:00 AM, a few children went to collect mangoes near the newly built house beside Saudagar's house in Durgapur village of Noannoi Union. There they noticed a body wrapped in polythene inside a septic tank. Alarmed, they started screaming, drawing the attention of locals, who then informed the police. Based on the information, a team from Sadar and Begumganj police stations recovered the body around 12:15 PM and prepared an inquest report. The body had visible injuries on the neck and face. Initially, it is suspected that he was killed by slitting his throat.
