Awami businessman Nurul looted Tk 308 crores from Rupali Bank

Staff Correspondent

The property value in Sreepur Mauza in Gazipur was at Tk 10 crore in 2022 but Tk 308 crore loan has been withdrawn from the state-owned Rupali Bank by keeping this property as collateral.

The loan was given by overestimating the property with the connivance of bank officials. A shed is erected on the land and some old machines brought from another factory are kept there. These machine documents were shown during inspection from the bank. The value of old machineries that can be sold as scrap is estimated to be hundreds of crores of rupees.

After the loan proposal, the expected amount of loan is approved with incredible speed. Abdullah Mohammad Saad Hossain, the businessman, allegedly overvalued the mortgaged property. Who is the notorious bank robber. Grandson of Nurul Islam's daughter's house. He was made the Managing Director of 'Noman Spinning Mills Ltd' and this money was withdrawn. In the name of loans, money is looted from the state-owned Rupali Bank.

Ataur Rahman Pradhan, a partner in the looting of Sheikh Hasina's government, was the chief executive of the bank when the robbery happened. The then corrupt officials of Rupali Bank wholeheartedly cooperated with the robbers who were identified as 'businessmen' close to Sheikh Hasina. This information came out in the correspondent's own investigation.

Investigation shows that in 2018, the alleged businessman Abdullah Mohammad Saad Hossain took a loan of Tk 308 crore from Rupali Bank. Abdullah Mohammad Saad Hossain is the Managing Director of Noman Spinning Mills Ltd. Earlier, the company took a loan of Tk 150 crore from the private Dutch-Bangla Bank. Born in 1996, Saad was 16 years old when Nurul Islam took a loan of Tk 150 crore showing Abdullah Mohammad Saad Hossain as the managing director of the company.

In other words, the bank failed. Nurul Islam used even a child. Saad was just studying in Malaysia. When the Dutch-Bangla Bank loan was about to be classified, Abdullah Saad resorted to Rupali Bank to repay it. The then management authority of the bank acquired the entire loan of the Dutch-Bangla Bank of the borrower. Also, more than twice the amount of acquired loan is sanctioned in favor of the institution. On the other hand, mortgaged 661 percent of the property purchased at Tepirbari Mauza in Sreepur, Gazipur. Deed of mortgaged property (No-9743/18) dated 30th July 2018 at Sreepur Sub-Registry Office treated old machinery as 'primary security'.

The investigation also shows that Abdullah Mohammad Saad took a loan of Tk 150 crore from Dutch-Bangla Bank in 2012. Saad was a child then. Rupali Bank authorities did not even verify the loan eligibility of the institution against the refinancing of the child-owned institution.

Apart from this, the surety holds a property of nominal value (Document No-12677/12). The overvaluation of the property is also so unusual that even if the mortgaged property is sold several times, the price of Tk 150 crore will not come up in the auction as per the market rate of that time. Against this property of lower value, Rupali took another 308 crores from Rupali Bank through fraud. In this case the bank also exceeds the 'exposure limit'.

According to the investigation, a person called Abul Kasem Chowdhury alias 'Commission Kasem' got the loan from Rupali Bank in favor of the borrower. He bribed the bank's then Managing Director Ataur Rahman Pradhan, Deputy Managing Director with 10 crore rupees. Jahangir Alam, the general manager of the bank's local office, including the concerned officers, he 'manages'. Kasem took a huge commission in exchange for getting the loan.

At that time, several crores of taka also entered the pockets of the bank officials who were at different desks. How hundreds of crores of rupees were given as a mortgage of the nominal price of the land? The then Managing Director of Rupali Bank, Ataur Rahman Pradhan, was asked to know if there was any inspection of the borrower's institution and the mortgaged property. In response, he said, I am now out of the country. I do not remember any information about that loan. But Jatata remembers, the loan was acquired from another bank. Bangladesh Bank clearance was taken in that case. After giving the loan, it was trading as a regular loan. Ataur Rahman Pradhan requested to contact the current concerned branch manager of the bank to know about the latest situation.

The then AGM of the bank Khan Mohammad Iqbal (currently working in Krishi Bank) spoke about the loan. He said the firm seemed like a 'good client' at the time. Moreover, they had a 'corporate guarantee'. I don't know what happened next.

According to the investigation, Abdullah Mohammad Saad Hossain was shown as the 'Managing Director' of Noman Spinning Mills while taking the loan.

In fact, it is owned by eight other people besides Saad. They are Md. Nurul Islam, his son Abdullah Mohammad Talha, daughter Noor-e-Yasmin Fatima, Md. Abdul Quddus, SM Rafiqul Islam, Md. Abdullah Jaber and Md. Abdullah Zubair.

The address of all is mentioned, House-19, Road-44, Block CWN (B), Gulshan-2, Dhaka. Abdul Quddus is said to be a salaried employee of the company. He is from Naturchar village in Tangail, Gopalpur. Although his occupation is mentioned as 'Business'.

The highest share (2500) has been given to Abdul Quddus and Abdullah Mohammad Saad Hossain. All are members of the same family except Quddus. Six people have 1000 shares each. The company does not have any post named 'Managing Director'.

According to the information received, the alleged businessman Nurul Islam can do anything to steal money from the bank. In case of loss of money of Rupali Bank, just as he made his infant grandson the 'Managing Director' of the organization, he also made the employee Quddus a shareholder. When he takes a loan using anyone's name wherever he wants. As a result, it appears that a single 'Director' may have been appointed during the establishment of the company, but in the case of taking a loan, he is presented as a 'Managing Director'.

Cunning Nurul Islam can use any kind of trick to steal the money of Islam. Just as he and his family members looted banks with slogans of 'Joy Bangla' during the A.League government, now they are desperate to gain favor with the current government by covering up their crimes by posing as loyal 'BNP-Jamaat'. Although Md. Nurul Islam, the Awami-closeness of every member of his family and the Awami themselves, including confessions, are in the hands of thhi reporter.

Basically Noman Group Nurul Islam and his family are bank robbers and totally is a crime family. Under the guise of textile industry, sale of bonded goods in the bootle market, acquisition of hundreds of crores of illegal wealth by mortgaging nominal property, disputed property and even government property, smuggling thousands of crores abroad through under-invoice-over-invoice, counterfeiting, 'national exports' in exchange for money.

Nurul Islam's family is involved in multi-dimensional crimes including purchase of trophies, use of police administration including DB Harun to repress opponents, filing of false cases, torture of innocent people by remand, one-sided trial in false cases and ensuring imprisonment.

Locally he is also known as 'Danveer', 'Educator'. This is its external form. But his inner face is ugly. On August 5, Nurul Islam is also trying to change the his face. However, some intelligence agencies including BFIU, Anti-Corruption Commission has already started investigation against him.

ACC Deputy Director Akhtar Hossain said about Nurul Islam's acquisition of huge illegal wealth through bank robbery and investigation of money laundering.

We have filed five separate cases against Asaduzzaman Kamal and his wife and children. This includes laundering of Tk .400/- to foreign countries. I am dealing with the corruption of many political-non-political, business people. Don't want to mention names right now. Hope to see the results soon.

It is mentionable that by mortgaging the nominal value of land, Nurul Islam used them to steal money from various banks by creating multiple documents of the same property through fraud. Illegally earned money has been smuggled to different countries including Malaysia. He built a second home there and Invested in various sectors. He built a mountain of wealth.

After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, many businessmen and industrialists close to the Awami League left the country. It is said that Nurul Islam is also preparing to leave the country with his family.
