Attack, vandalism at journalist’s house led by Krishok Dal leader in Barishal

Barishal Bureau

Led by  HM Mohsin Alam, Convener of Barishal District (South) Krishok Dal  has allegedly made  an attack, vandalism, and looting at a journalist's house.

The incident occurred on Thursday (April 3) at around 9 PM behind Sher-e-Bangla Regional Cooperative Academy in the city’s Kashipur area.

The victim journalist is named Masud Rana. He is the Barishal correspondent of the national daily New Nation and Dainik Protidiner Sangbad, as well as a member of the Barishal Reporters Unity.

Upon hearing the news of the attack, fellow journalists rushed to the scene. Shortly after, in front of the journalists, around 20–30 motorcycles arrived with a show of force led by the banned Chhatra League Ward President (son-in-law of the BNP leader) Ifat Molla. At that time, they issued various verbal threats and left.

Victim journalist Masud Rana said that on Thursday night at 9 PM, around 50–60 locally armed goons led by Krishok Dal leader Mohsin and his son-in-law, the banned Chhatra League Ward 29 President Ifat Molla, carried out the attack.

They had been demanding Tk. 5 lakh as extortion for a long time under various pretexts. Frustrated over not getting the money, they carried out the attack. He added that they narrowly escaped harm because no male members were present at home during the attack.

Journalist Masud Rana’s mother was injured while trying to stop the attackers, and his house was damaged. The opposing group continues to threaten the family members of journalist Masud Rana.

Krishok Dal leader HM Mohsin Alam denied the allegations and said, “I wasn’t even in Barishal yesterday.”

OC  of Airport Police Station Zakir Sikder said, “I immediately sent forces upon receiving the news. We ensured security by dispatching police at night. Legal action will be taken if the victim files a complaint.”

Meanwhile, Barishal Reporters Unity President Anisur Rahman Khan Swapan and General Secretary Khalid Saifullah, along with other journalist leaders, have demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved.
