A mass wedding of 7 couples was held in Lalmonirhat.

The 'Alokit Lalmonirhat' program has started its journey with the determination to eradicate social ills and build an ideal society. As the first step of the initiative, a grand mass marriage of 7 pairs of young people was completed in the district without any dowry.

The wedding was held in a festive atmosphere at the Zilla Parishad auditorium on Friday night. organized by 'Alokit Lalmonirhat'. A crowd of festive people thronged the auditorium to witness the exceptional and humane wedding.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu was present as the chief guest at the event.

Blessing and greetings to the newlyweds, the Relief Minister said, "Dowry, child marriage, drugs, gambling and violence against women are destroying the foundation of our rural society and family structure from within. Social prejudices like dowry and child marriage in particular are destroying the dreams of our future generations. And the scourge of drugs is pushing the youth towards destruction."

He further said that in order to build an enlightened and prosperous Lalmonirhat, everyone in the society, regardless of party affiliation, must unite and speak out against those crimes. Discriminatory practices like dowry create unrest and strife in the family. The dowry-free marriage that has been organized today to protect the society from that curse.

The minister's wife Mrs. Laila Habib, Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muh. Rashedul Haque Prodhan, Lalmonirhat District Police Superintendent Md. Asaduzzaman, and District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, among others, were present as special guests at the ceremony and wished the bride and groom well.

The ceremony was attended by family members of the newlyweds, leaders of various BNP branches and affiliates, and representatives of civil society, including journalists working in the district.
