Joint forces arrested five robbers, including the head of a robbery gang, after conducting raids at various places in Savar.
Cash and local weapons were seized from them. They were handed over to Savar Model Police Station at 9 pm on Monday.
Earlier, they were arrested by the joint initiative of the 9th Infantry Division of the Savar Army after conducting raids at various places in Savar in the last 24 hours. The arrested are - Sohel (34), Samrat (28), Sumon (26), Durjoy (24) and Samar (25). The joint forces said that the gang used to rob pedestrians at various places on the Dhaka-Aricha highway of cash, mobile phones and valuables. Later, the joint forces conducted raids from Sunday night and arrested them. Among the five robbers arrested, the leader Sohel is an accused in the murder case, the joint forces said. During this time, Swiss gear knives and cash, along with local weapons, were recovered from them.
The joint force further said that during initial interrogation, the detainees said that the gang used to rob in three parts from Bishmail to Dairy Gate on the Dhaka-Aricha highway, from Dairy Gate to C& B, and from C&B to Rodeo Colony area of Savar. Police members including Lieutenant Colonel Asif Rahman, Commander of 27 East Bengal Regiment under the 81 Infantry Brigade of the 9th Infantry Division, Major Mohammad Salauddin, Captain Shamim and others participated in the operation.
