Missing auto-rickshaw driver in Pallabi: Complaint against garage owner’s family alleging murder, hiding of body
Staff Correspondent
A formal written complaint has been lodged at Pallabi Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) by Most. Anowara Begum (40), alleging that her husband, Harun (40), an auto-rickshaw driver, has been murdered and his body concealed.
According to the complaint, Harun was an auto-rickshaw driver residing in Section-12, Block-D, Kalapani Shahibag East Slum, under Pallabi Police Station. He rented and operated an auto-rickshaw from a garage owned by Shahjahan, located in front of the school camp on Kalapani Road-6.
The complaint details that approximately three months ago, Harun was involved in a road accident. Following an altercation with a passenger, the duty traffic police seized the auto-rickshaw and sent it to dumping. Eight days prior to filing the complaint (on a Thursday), Shahjahan's wife, daughter, son-in-law, and two drivers came to Harun’s residence, asked him to step out under the pretext of talking, took him inside Shahjahan’s garage, and severely assaulted him over the damaged auto-rickshaw. Upon hearing the news, Anowara Begum went to the garage and brought her husband back.
The following day (Friday), the same individuals returned to the house, summoned Harun again on the pretense of having a conversation, took him inside the garage, and subjected him to a second round of physical torture. Last Sunday, when Anowara Begum went to the garage to inquire about her husband's whereabouts, the accused demanded a ransom of BDT 20,000 and threatened to kill her husband if the money was not paid before driving her away.
On October 21 at around 9:00 PM, Anowara Begum revisited Shahjahan’s garage to ask about her husband's location. The accused verbally abused her with obscene language and threatened to kill her and hide her body just as they allegedly did to her husband. Fearing for her life, she fled the scene.
The complainant strongly suspects that her husband succumbed to the brutal assault inflicted by Shahjahan’s wife, daughter, and son-in-law, and that they have hidden his body. She also expressed serious apprehension that returning to the garage to search for her husband could put her own life in severe danger.
After consulting with local neighbors and close relatives, Anowara Begum filed the written complaint at the police station, seeking a fair investigation, the arrest of the accused, and the uncovering of the mystery surrounding her husband's disappearance. Police are expected to investigate the matter and take necessary legal action.
