
World Mental Health Day celebrated at DU

World Mental Health Day was celebrated on Saturday as a joint initiative of the Office of Student Guidance and Counseling and the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, Dhaka University. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin), Prof Dr. Saima Haque, who is on routine duty as the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, inaugurated the day-long program on this occasion as the chief guest at a function held at the Bidisha Student-Teacher Center premises.

The theme of the Day this year is 'Access to Mental Health Services in Disasters and Emergencies'.
The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Mehzabeen Haque, Director of the Student Guidance and Counseling Office, and Dr. Md. Azharul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, delivered the vote of thanks.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin ) Prof Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha said, "In most cases, we do not give as much importance to physical illness as we give to mental illness or do not feel comfortable telling others about any mental issues. This is not right." Stressing the importance of creating public awareness on mental health protection, she said, "In the current competitive society, various types of mental stress are being created among people of all ages, including the young generation. She advised everyone to take counseling services to control and manage mental stress. She emphasized the need to further expand services and awareness activities at the institutional level for mental health protection."
Later, Prof Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha visited various stalls set up on the TSC premises to mark World Mental Health Day.
The day-long program includes free counseling services, psychological evaluations, psychological games, exhibition and sale of books on mental health, workshops, and various awareness-raising activities.
