Sylhet Bureau
In the wake of recent tensions between India and Pakistan, a continuous two-month-long curfew has been imposed in India's Meghalaya State, specifically in the East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Khasi Hills districts.
Several news outlets published from Meghalaya reported the imposition of this curfew on Tuesday.
Indian media confirmed that East Khasi Hills District Magistrate R.M. Kurbah and West Jaintia Khasi Hills Magistrate Abhinav Kumar Singh declared the curfew will remain in effect continuously for two months.
According to Meghalaya news sources, the district magistrates imposed a night-time curfew in areas of the India-Bangladesh border that lack barbed wire fencing. The purpose of the curfew is to prevent cross-border infiltration, militant movement, and illegal activities across the border.
As a result of the curfew from 8:00 PM on Friday night (May 9) until 6:00 AM, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) intensified round-the-clock patrols in their respective areas of responsibility. This was confirmed by responsible sources within BGB's Sylhet 48 Battalion and Sunamganj 28 Battalion.
Multiple Indian media outlets—including Northeast News, Voice 7 Seven, and the curfew imposed on May 9 and 10 as a matter of significant importance.
