Trader fined for cutting, selling soil in Mirzapur

A mobile court has fined a trader named Shahidul Dewan 50 thousand taka for illegally cutting hilly red soil with an excavator in Mirzapur, Tangail on Thursday night.

The mobile court judge, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Masudur Rahman, conducted a raid at several places in Tafarpur and Ajgana unions of the upazila.

It is learnt that soil traders have been cutting red soil with excavators and selling it in drum trucks at several places in Ajgana, Bashtoil and Tarafpur unions of the upazila at night. Based on secret information, the mobile court magistrate Md. Masudur Rahman conducted a raid at several places including Takia Kadma, Telipara, Ajgana.

At that time, a businessman named Shahidul Dewan was caught red-handed while cutting and selling red soil. On receiving the news, other soil traders fled. Later, a mobile court fined him 50,000 taka. Shahidul Dewan is a resident of Panchgaon village of Bashtoil union.

In the past one month, the upazila administration has collected a fine of about 50 thousand taka by operating a mobile court for the crime of cutting soil. Mobile Court Magistrate Masudur Rahman said that such campaigns will continue in the public interest.
