Severe erosion at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat : Locals trying to prevent erosion throwing sand-filled plastics at their own expense

Moynul Haque Mridha, Rajbari

The government people have not taken any measures, so we ourselves are buying sand and plastic bags and filling them with sand and throwing them at the erosion site. I am doing this for peace of mind. Besides, I have no other choice.

On Saturday (July 6) at around 11 o'clock in the morning, Mr. Shatordhava . was saying these while standing at the breaking point of the Sattar member's neighborhood next to Ferry No. 6 in Daulatdia. Chiddik pal.

He also said that we are not throwing sacks to prevent erosion, we are currently throwing 250 sacks at the affected areas so that the waves of Khali River will be less. We are seeking the government's foresight.

Going to ghat number 6 in Sarzamin, it can be seen that women, men and children who have suffered due to erosion are filling thin plastic sacks by the river with sand on their heads. During this time they expressed various angers.

At this time, the grocery shopkeeper of Ghat number 6 Barek Mridha said that in the last one week, the settlement above about 50 meters has gone under the river. If the government officials had dropped some Jio bags earlier, my shop would not have been vandalized today. All our foreheads, what else can I say. That's why I am filling sand in a thin bag with money.

Sarwar Hossain Molla, the victim, said that the chairman, the members only come during the voting time and promise, there is no news. Now everyone is coming to Bhanan Dehar but there is no action.

The victim Amena Begum said in a tearful voice, I was happy with five family members. But the river took away my dreams. The government does not throw sacks during dry weather, floods actually break them all and take them to the Ganges. My house has been broken into. I am wondering where to go and what to do.

Nepal Chandra Debnath, Executive Engineer of BIWTA said, "We try to protect the 7 ghats in Daulatdia with geobags when there is erosion, moreover the Water Development Board works to protect against severe erosion every year. BIWTA does the work required to protect the wharf. We are coming to the ghat today, we have seen the place affected by erosion, if we have to do something to protect the ghat, we will do it.

Goalando Upazila Executive Officer Joti Bikas Chandra said, "I have already informed the District DC Sir about the erosion that has occurred in Sattar Member Para of Ghat No. 6, and the concerned authorities will take immediate action in this regard."

In this regard, Rajbari Water Development Board Engineer. When Abdullah Al Amin was called several times, he did not answer the phone, so it was not possible to take his statement.
